1. What keeps the product fresh?
We start with the freshest produce, process with state-of-the-art cutting, washing and drying technology, and pack the cut produce in special bags or film that allow the produce to breathe and maintain freshness.
2. How do you keep the product fresh once it's opened? Bag products: after the package has been opened, gently push out excess air. Clip or wrap with a rubber band and store in the refrigerator to keep your produce moist and fresh until reuse. Cup or tray products: keep the produce in the refrigerator in the original container.
3. How long will the salad and vegetables last?
Shelf life depends on storage temperature. Our laboratory studies indicate that our unopened products will last anywhere from ten to fourteen days at 34 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Opened salads and vegetables taste best if eaten within two days after opening.
4. Do the salads and vegetables need to be washed?
Our process includes thorough washing, resulting in a ready-to-eat, out-of-the-bag product. It's not necessary to wash the salad or vegetables again, but it won't harm the product if you do!
5. Are there any preservatives in the salads or vegetables?
Ready Pac Produce uses no preservatives to maintain the freshness of the salads and vegetables. Our unique proprietary technology enables us to provide you with fresh-cut produce that is all natural with no preservatives.
6. Are your products all natural?
All of our cut vegetables, salads, and fruits are all natural. Some items in our kits, like croutons and/or dressing, may contain preservatives used to maintain quality.
7. Why is the salad sometimes chunky?
Mother Nature has something to do with that! Depending on weather conditions, lettuce may grow very compactly, producing chunky pieces of salad.
8. Why does the salad sometimes smell?
Our salads produce carbon dioxide, which actually helps the product stay fresh without preservatives. The initial smell is related to this release of carbon dioxide. It is harmless and it should dissipate immediately upon opening the bag.
9. Why is the salad sometimes wet?
When Ready Pac salad is properly produced and distributed, it should not be excessively wet. We dry the salad to its optimal moisture level and we let our customers know that cold temperature must always be maintained to realize the expected shelf life. If you purchase an excessively wet salad, please call our Consumer Affairs department at (800) 800-7822.
10. Is the salad Kosher?
All fruits and vegetables are intrinsically Kosher in their natural state. Once produce undergoes any form of processing (such as washing, cutting and packaging lettuce), a Rabbi, knowledgeable of Kosher laws, needs to supervise the process to ensure that no non-Kosher ingredients are in the finished product, and that all items are processed in accordance with their guidelines. All of Ready Pac's retail products conform to the guidelines of the Rabbinical Order, except Spinach and Salad Kits. Look for the Kosher symbol on the package front for easy reference.
11. What does organic mean?
Organic farming reflects a concern for the environment, refraining from synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. This gives you a natural, healthy selection of greens, ready to eat right out of the bag. Ready Pac® Certified Organic Salads include a wide variety of popular salad blends, and meet the new USDA standards for 100% Organic products. They are also independently certified by Quality Assurance International.
12. Where is the salad grown?
Most of Ready Pac's lettuces and greens are grown in California's Salinas Valley and Imperial Valley.
13. What does Ready Pac mean by "European"?
The Europeans have always been on the cutting edge when it comes to gourmet salads. They constantly experiment with different greens, cut sizes and combinations. Ready Pac is taking a chapter out of the European experience by providing U.S. consumers with colorful combinations of baby lettuces and hard and soft lettuces. Ready Pac has proprietary rights in North America to unique European processing technology. This technology includes the use of the clear, anti-fog film to showcase the salad's freshness as well as the "pillow" packaging that protects delicate lettuces from bruising and prolongs their shelf life.
14. What's the difference between Ready Pac's products and the competitions'?
We believe that we have a better system from the ground up-from raw quality to processing and packaging. See the freshness for yourself when you examine your produce through our superior anti-fog packaging.
