IEH Opens On-site Laboratory at Ready Pac Produce

SEATTLE, WA, September 27, 2007 - IEH Laboratories & Consulting Group (IEH) announced today the opening of an on-site laboratory at Ready Pac Produce at their Irwindale, CA. facility. By being on-site, and using IEH developed rapid detection methods, the laboratory gives Ready Pac the ability to test for E. coli O157 and other pathogens of concern to the produce industry with a turn-around time that does not delay the distribution of products throughout the supply chain.

According to Bob Miksch, Vice President of Technical Service for IEH, "The IEH laboratory greatly increases the ability of Ready Pac Foods to implement some of the new strategies for producing safe food products that have been put into place following the produce-related food borne illness outbreaks of last year. Ready Pac Foods now has the capability of implementing 100% hold and release testing of products."

"This independent lab enables us to perform micro-testing in Irwindale and other facilities using the most advanced technologies in rapid detection of pathogens," adds Brian Zomorodi, Vice President of Technology & Quality for Ready Pac. "This and similar labs that we are establishing in our facilities provide a major advantage in assuring the safety of Ready Pac products. Additionally, the new capability enables Ready Pac to build additional food safety measures into the design of our products and processes".

The IEH on-site laboratory is dedicated to the needs of Ready Pac Foods and will also be providing routine facility support services such as sanitary efficacy and product quality testing. In addition, Ready Pac will be able to take advantage of more extensive laboratory services available through the IEH network of laboratories such as product development, shelf-life and HACCP validation studies, with the expertise of more than 40 Ph.D.s in a wide range of disciplines that are on the IEH staff. The IEH facility is available to offer their services to food establishments in Southern California.
